Glass types Daca Windows

Help choosing a glass type for your windows and doors.

Choosing a glass type for your bi fold doors or aluminium windows in general can be a bit of a task. We hope we can help you out with a few options explained below.

Toughened glass

Toughened glass is a good choice for strength and safety in doors and windows.Toughened Glass is heat strengthened. A process where the glass is heated to extreme temperatures then rapidly cooled down to make the surface considerably stronger and impact resistant. This makes it a great option for colour back glass / glass splash backs. Toughened glass, due to its brittle nature, will break in to very small pieces and not in to sharp pieces making it a great strong and safe option.

Laminated glass.

Laminated glass is another safety option. It is widely used across the glazing industry. Laminated glass is two pieces of glass sandwiched together with a thin film of clear vinyl . When there is enough force or impact causing it to break, it will hold together and will not fall or hurt anyone. Laminated glass also helps with noise reduction due to a dampening effect of the vinyl layer.

Laminated glass is a great option for bi fold doors and all Aluminium windows.

Low e glass energy efficient.

Low e glass is a great option for any body who wants to cut down on heating and cooling bills due to its energy efficiency.

Low e glass has a coating applied to the glass and blocks all those damaging UV rays, reflecting solar heat to the outside of your house.  Inside the house, it reflects heat from heaters or cool air from air conditioners to the inside of your house, acting like insulation and preventing energy loss.

IGU's / Double glazed units.

Double glazing is the ultimate in energy efficiency and noise reduction.

Insulated glass units, commonly referred to as double glazed units, comprise of two sheets of glass with a continuous spacer in between, sealed in factory conditions. The space in between is filled with an argon gas to eliminate any moisture in the cavity. Double glazing can be fitted in to any of our bi fold door range and in to all of our Aluminium windows.

Tints and colours.

Basically all of the different glass types explained above come in different tints from grey tints to green or blue and can be a great feature to cut out sunlight or to create a tranquil mood.

All of the glass types listed above will be glazed to Australian standards and can be included in any bifold doors or aluminium windows in our range.
